Happy Birthday Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On January 15, we celebrate the 85th birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. For 15 years after his death in 1968, members of the Congressional Black Caucus advocated for the passage of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Bill to pay tribute to his contributions to freedom, justice and equality. On November 3, 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed the bill into law. The passing of this bill in 1983, symbolized the consistent effort to establish a place in history for this pillar of civil rights.
